It was an era of cool… the epoch of Eames… a coming of age. The 1950s and 60s were a turbulent time in America, with questions of equality finding their answers and facets of pop culture colliding into one another in a complex and ultimately fascinating melange. In retrospect, that period of design brought forth the tangible equivalent of a Chet Baker song drenched in an ice-cold martini aboard a PanAm flight bound for the coast. Unfettered by extraneous details, the simple, straightforward lines and lack of pomp and circumstance in the designs of the day were a breath of fresh air on the heels of more ornate counterparts from decades past. Making a resurgence in the early 2000s, the emergence of Mad Men and other retro-modern vintage kitsch hasn't hurt its escalation. So straighten your skinny tie, take a seat on the Bertola or the Visser and feast your ears on some jazz, man… jazz.
