German designer Katrin Sonnleitner combines the fun of putting together a puzzle with the challenge of decorating a space in her Puzzle Perser modular flooring, which is essentially a fully functional do-it-yourself puzzle of a Persian rug that can legitimately be used as a floor covering. Consisting of 1225 pieces, the “rug” is made of a recyclable mixture of synthetic and natural rubber.
Since completing internships at Designafairs GmbH in Erlangen and Emiliana Design Studio in Barcelona, the Hochschule für Gestaltung graduate and Designlabor Bremerhaven scholar have won numerous design competitions, including – interestingly enough – the first-place prize for a coffin design.
This colorful Persian puzzle rug, which she first created in 2007, is arguably a much livelier offering. Contact the studio directly for availability and pricing.
